How to brew
For everyday preventive support during cool-weather months, drink 1–2 cups daily.
At the first sign of seasonal illness, step up to 3–4 cups daily — aggressive use at the earliest signs gives these herbs their best opportunity to support your response.
Stay well-hydrated whenever you drink yarrow-containing teas, as it supports the body's sweating response. For children ages 2–6, use ¼ adult serving; ages 7–12, use ½ adult serving.
Scoop 1 teaspoon of loose leaf per 8oz cup into a strainer or infuser. Use 1 tablespoon for a stronger infusion.
Bring filtered water to a boil, then let it sit 30 seconds off-boil (roughly 200°F). Pour over the herbs and cover the cup or pot for 7–10 minutes — covering keeps the aromatic oils in the cup rather than the steam.
Strain and sip warm. Sweeten with raw honey if you like.
Store the tea in a cool, dry, dark place in an airtight container. Properly stored, loose-leaf tea holds its potency for 6–12 months.

Can I drink this while taking medications or with a weakened immune system?
Consult your healthcare provider first. If you have an autoimmune condition, take immunosuppressant medications, or have a compromised immune system, you need professional guidance before using immune-stimulating herbs. These are powerful plants that affect immune function—that's exactly why they work—but that power means they require appropriate oversight for certain conditions. Many people with immune challenges use these herbs successfully, but medical supervision is essential.
Should I take this if I already have a fever?
Yes, with awareness. Yarrow promotes sweating and helps the body manage fever naturally—this is a feature, not a bug. However, if your fever is very high (over 103°F) or you have concerning symptoms, seek medical care. These herbs support your body's natural fever response; they don't suppress it like medication. Fever is one of your body's primary defense mechanisms—yarrow helps it work effectively. Stay hydrated when using diaphoretic herbs like yarrow.
How quickly does this tea work?
It depends on when you start. For prevention, you need consistent daily use (1-2 cups) throughout cold and flu season to build immune resilience—this is cumulative support. At the first sign of illness, aggressive use (3-4 cups daily) can sometimes stop illness from fully developing—many people report symptoms disappearing within 24-48 hours. During active illness, these herbs support your body's healing but won't make you instantly better—healing takes time. They help you feel better and recover faster, not magically resolve things overnight.
Is this safe for children?
Generally yes, with appropriate dosing. These herbs have been used traditionally for children's illnesses. For kids 2-6 years, use 1/4 adult dose; ages 7-12, use 1/2 adult dose. However, always check with a pediatrician before giving herbs to children, especially if they have health conditions or take medications. For infants under 2, consult a qualified herbalist or pediatrician before use.
Can I drink this tea long-term for prevention?
Yes, but cyclically is better. These herbs are appropriate for daily use during cold and flu season (roughly October through March in most climates). However, immune-stimulating herbs work best when used strategically rather than year-round continuously. Consider: daily during high-risk seasons, breaks during summer, and aggressive use at first illness signs. This keeps your immune system from becoming "used to" the stimulation and maintains the herbs' effectiveness.
How should I store my tea?
Keep it in a cool, dry, dark place. Store in an airtight container away from heat, moisture, and direct sunlight. Properly stored, loose leaf tea maintains potency for 6-12 months. You'll know it's fresh by the strong aroma when you open the container—if the scent has faded significantly, the medicinal properties may have diminished.

From the herbalist
“Flu Fighter is the tea I keep in a glass jar by the kettle from October through March. Elderberry, ginger, yarrow — the traditional winter-wellness herbs, strong enough to feel in a single cup. It's not a cure for anything. It's a warm, honest companion for the weeks your body needs extra support.”
