Handcrafted apothecary
for clear breathing
How to brew
For active respiratory challenges, drink 3–4 cups daily. For everyday respiratory support during cool-weather months, 1–2 cups daily is plenty.
For children ages 2–6, use ¼ adult serving; ages 7–12, use ½ adult serving. Check with your pediatrician first if there is any chronic respiratory concern.
Scoop 1 teaspoon of loose leaf per 8oz cup into a strainer or infuser. Use 1 tablespoon for a stronger infusion.
Bring filtered water to a boil, then let it sit 30 seconds off-boil (roughly 200°F). Pour over the herbs and cover the cup or pot for 7–10 minutes — covering keeps the aromatic oils in the cup rather than the steam.
Strain and sip warm. Sweeten with raw honey if you like.
Store the tea in a cool, dry, dark place in an airtight container. Properly stored, loose-leaf tea holds its potency for 6–12 months.

Can I drink this during an active cold or flu?
Yes, and it's particularly helpful then. This blend supports your body's natural respiratory function during illness. The mullein helps clear congestion, licorice soothes irritated tissues, and cinnamon's antimicrobial properties support your immune response. Drink 3-4 cups daily during active illness. However, this is supportive care, not a replacement for medical treatment—if symptoms worsen or persist, see a healthcare provider.
Is this safe for children with respiratory symptoms?
Generally yes, with appropriate dosing. These herbs are traditionally used for children's respiratory complaints. For kids 2-6 years, use 1/4 adult dose; ages 7-12, use 1/2 adult dose. The sweet cinnamon flavor makes it palatable for kids. However, always check with a pediatrician before giving herbs to children, especially if they have a chronic respiratory condition or take medications.
Can I drink this alongside respiratory medications?
Only as complementary support, never as a replacement for your prescribed care. If you are managing a chronic respiratory condition, discuss this tea with your healthcare provider before using — especially the licorice, which can affect some people. Never reduce or stop prescribed respiratory medications without your doctor's guidance.
How does this compare to over-the-counter cough medicine?
Completely different approaches. Over-the-counter medications suppress symptoms—they stop coughs or dry up mucus through chemical force. These herbs support your body's natural healing—helping you cough productively, clear congestion effectively, and breathe more easily without suppressing your body's wisdom. They work with your respiratory system rather than overriding it. Many people prefer this approach, but severe symptoms may require pharmaceutical intervention.
I'm watching my blood pressure or take cardiovascular medication. Can I drink this?
Check with your doctor first. Licorice root can affect blood pressure in some people, especially with regular, long-term use. If you are managing your blood pressure or take cardiovascular medication, consult your healthcare provider before drinking this tea regularly. Occasional use is usually fine, but daily consumption over weeks may be contraindicated for you.
How should I store my tea?
Keep it in a cool, dry, dark place. Store in an airtight container away from heat, moisture, and direct sunlight. Properly stored, loose leaf tea maintains potency for 6-12 months. You'll know it's fresh by the strong aroma when you open the container—if the scent has faded significantly, the medicinal properties may have diminished.

From the herbalist
“Breathe Better was born out of one Arkansas winter when the whole household was congested for three weeks. Mullein, sage, and hyssop — steeped strong and sipped warm — are what pulled us through. I keep a jar of this on the shelf every cold-weather season now, and I wanted you to have one too.”
